Recently, took the opportunity to share my knowledge on “Future of Mobility”. As a part of that session, I built a mini car prototype to demonstrate open-source IVI and software stack for the connected car. As GENIVI and AGL are being adopted across the industry, I chose them as a platform for demonstration. After going through multiple attempts, I was successful in building AGL for Raspberry Pi 3. After the boot, the software was not stable which ended up showing me a black screen also I was not able to launch apps through the dashboard. I found good content which explains about this issue and the IVI shell integration with QT and home screen in AGL 3.0.x CC release. I am working to resolve this and will be running the applications through home screen or manually through AFM.

GENIVI, on the other hand, gives a pre-built image for Raspberry Pi 3 which can be booted in 10 mins. It gives you a handful of demo apps including music player, navigation, Bluetooth and HVAC controls. To take this prototype to the next level, I am planning to integrate IoTivity to control smart home appliances like lights using the car dashboard. Furthermore, I am planning to leverage my free time to add lane detection to this model.
